Morellino di Scansano DOC – Poliziano

Morellino possesses the warmth and intensity so typical of wines produced near the sea. At the same time it entices with pleasing enjoyability, fully expressing its character as a highly versatile wine.

FIRST YEAR OF PRODUCTION: 1998

AVERAGE BOTTLE PRODUCTION: About 60,000 VARIETY: 85% Sangiovese – 15% Ciliegiolo

AREA OF VINEYARDS: 18 hectares

ALTITUDE: 100 metres above sea level

EXPOSURE: South/Southwest

SOIL TYPE: : Sloping, skeletal with marl and sandstone

PLANT DENSITY: 3,000 per hectare in the old vineyards – 6,000 in the new

HARVEST METHOD: manuale

VINIFICATION: Fermentation takes place in the cellars in Magliano in steel vats at a controlled temperature. Fermentation and maceration take 15 – 20 days.

REFINEMENT: The wine is refined for 8 months in second-use “barriques” and “tonneaux” of French oak, in the cellars in Montepulciano.
